AHEAD OF 2019 ELECTIONS | Pres. Duterte releases names of alleged narco-politicians

MARCH 14, 2019 — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday released the list of politicians who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

Duterte rattled off at least 40 names of politicians including lawmakers during the National Peace and Order Council meeting in Davao City.

Duterte said the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has already filed administrative cases against drug linked local officials before the Office of the Ombudsman.

“Since my assumption in 2016, I have committed to eradicate the drug problem. I have done that. My decision to unmask these drug personalities was anchored on my trust in the government agencies who have vetted and validated the narco-list,” the president said in his speech.

“The Department of the Interior and Local Government has filed administrative cases against them, local officials today, March 14, 2019, at the Office of the Ombudsman,” he added.

The chief executive, however, clarified that there are also other names included in the list but he wants to make sure first that it is validated.

“From the time being ito na lang muna. Representative kasi validated na. ‘Yung iba I just want to be doubly sure. I’m not really interested in releasing it before or after the elections because I don’t have the slightest intention to hurt anybody or to be the cause of a failure of the election of a certain one who wants to serve the public,” Duterte said.

The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) earlier announced its plan to release a list of “narco-politicians” before the elections so that voters will have an idea on the background of candidates in their areas.
